02.12.2011New Scandlines ferry “Berlin” takes to the water for the first time

Scandlines and P + S shipyards are celebrating another milestone on their way to putting their two new builds into service. Today the “Berlin” came into contact with the element water for the first time before some 150 guests from the world of politics and business at the P + S shipyard in Stralsund.

27.09.2011Danish and German flag on new Gedser-Rostock ferries from spring 2012

The two new Scandlines vessels for the Gedser-Rostock route to be put in service in 2012 will be christened M/S Copenhagen and M/S Berlin. M/S Copenhagen will sail under the Danish flag while M/S Berlin will sail under the German flag, thereby reflecting the dual-national character of the Scandlines Group and the Gedser-Rostock route. This decision underlines the strategic focus to improve traffic on the Copenhagen-Berlin corridor, paving the way for future growth in both countries.

28.06.2011Scandlines cut the first sod for the new super port in Gedser

Something big is going on in the port of Gedser. Scandlines therefore got out the golden spades when cutting the first sod for the future super port today. The port will be tailored for the Scandlines ferries ”Copenhagen” and ”Berlin” which will be handling the line Gedser-Rostock from 2012. Among the speakers was the Chairman of the Transport Committee, Flemming Damgaard Larsen, who emphasised Scandlines’ visions for the eastern corridor and the Danish ferry service in general.

The Scandlines shipping line opened a BorderShop at the Port of Rostock on 31 May. The shopping area measures 1,200 square metres and is part of the investment programme for the Rostock–Gedser ferry line.

Positive net result thanks to growth in freight segment plus more efficient organisation

Scandlines is back on the growth track. In 2010 the Baltic Sea-based shipping line registered a solid financial result. The positive development was primarily based on a rise in freight transport coupled with a more streamlined corporate structure.
